چکیده

The reaction A + B −→ B is studied when the reactants diffuse in phase space, i.e. their dynamics is described by the Langevin equation. The steadystate rate constants are calculated for both the target (static A and mobile B’s) and trapping (mobile A and static B’s) problems when the reaction is assumed to occur at the first contact. For Brownian dynamics (i.e., ordinary diffusion), the rate constant for both problems is a monotonically decreasing function of the friction coefficient γ. For Langevin dynamics, however, we find that the steady-state rate constant exhibits a turnover behavior as a function of γ for the trapping problem but not for the target problem. This turnover is different from the familiar Kramers’ turnover of the rate constant for escape from a deep potential well because the reaction considered here is an activationless process. ∗Permanent address: Karpov Institute of Physical Chemistry, Ul. Quantum Langevin model for exoergic ion-molecule reactions and inelastic processes

We present a fully quantal version of the Langevin model for the total rate of exoergic ion-molecule reactions or inelastic processes. The model, which is derived from a rigorous multichannel quantum-defect formulation of bimolecular processes, agrees with the classical Langevin model at sufficiently high temperatures. It also gives an analytic description of ion-molecule reactions and inelasti...

Analysis of Brownian Dynamics Simulations of Reversible Bimolecular Reactions

A class of Brownian dynamics algorithms for stochastic reaction-diffusion models which include reversible bimolecular reactions is presented and analyzed. The method is a generalization of the λ–̺ model for irreversible bimolecular reactions which was introduced in [11]. The formulae relating the experimentally measurable quantities (reaction rate constants and diffusion constants) with the algo...

Mechanism Discrimination for Bimolecular Reactions: Revisited with a Practical Hydrogenation Case Study

The governing mechanism of surface reactions is a fundamental concern in heterogeneous catalysis. The Langmuir–Hinshelwood (LH) mechanism is widely accepted to control the surface reactions in many catalytic systems. This contribution derives and compares several important surface rate equations to evaluate their quality of fitting to the experimental data collected for a vapor-phase hydrogenat...

Irreversible bimolecular reactions with inertia: from the trapping to the target setting at finite densities.

We investigate numerically pseudo-first-order irreversible bimolecular reactions of the type A + B → B between hard spheres undergoing event-driven Brownian dynamics. We study the encounter rate and the survival probability of A particles as functions of the packing fraction ϕ in the trapping (a single particle diffusing among static non-overlapping traps) and target (many traps diffusing in th...

Chemical Master Equation and Langevin Regimes for a Gene Transcription Model

Gene transcription models must take account of intrinsic stochasticity. The Chemical Master Equation framework is based on modelling assumptions that are highly appropriate for this context, and the Stochastic Simulation Algorithm (also known as Gillespie’s algorithm) allows for practical simulations to be performed. However, for large networks and/or fast reactions, such computations can be pr...
